A month has passed since the Be Warrior Challenge and I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’ve received a picturesque dusting of snow on Mount Rose in the last couple of days. It’s beautiful!
Matt, Luke, and I along with Lora and Lola and Dr. Van Haren, want to express our gratitude for showing up for the Second Annual Be Warrior Challenge! THANK YOU!!! It was a most excellent day. The sky was blue, the temps were perfect, and, if I do say so myself, the T-Shirts looked great on the trail!
We had 108 hikers show up to challenge themselves: 8 seniors, 67 adults, 17 teens and 16 kids. Forty-one meandered to Warrior 1 (The Waterfall), seven to Warrior 2 (The Saddle), seven to Warrior 3 (Sunset Ridge) and 51 summited Warrior 4! The youngest to summit were eight and nine year old tough, gritty girls- my niece Lola and Dr. Van Haren’s daughter Anya. There were families and friends, first time hikers and summiters and plenty of dogs on the trail too!
I heard several reports back from Warriors about an old friend they ran into or someone super cool they met on the trail. That was a no brainer for me because we seriously have a spectacular community of friends and family!
And not to be ignored are the handful of warriors who did the challenge virtually! Nice work!
A ginormous thanks to everyone who made a donation to support the research in the Van Haren lab at Stanford. We are humbled, encouraged and strengthened by everyones’ incredible generosity. Wow!
We are closing out the fundraiser at the end of the month and are thrilled to announce that together we’ve raised just over $32,000! It’s a little shy of our $40,000 goal but every penny is going to finance research and researchers in the Van Haren Lab where the goal is to have therapeutic treatments for Adrenoleukodystropy within the next 10 years. We are changing the future for other boys and their families! Awesomesauce!
Hoping EVERYONE will save the date, August 26, 2023, for the 3rd Annual Be Warrior Hike.
Thank you so much and all our best!
Matt, Katie, Luke, Lora and Lola
