Be Warrior Challenge Hike
On August 24th, we will be honoring Ben’s warrior spirit by inviting you to Be Warrior too! We will also be raising awareness about Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) and raising money to help find a cure. We would love to have you join us!

Important! We want you to remember Ben, but we also want you to be safe. It is up to you to choose the challenge that best suits your physical abilities. Ben was blind and did many things accompanied and guided by family members and trusted friends. Do not attempt to do any blindfold challenge without a guide.
One Hike. Several Options
Challenge 1 - Galena Creek Falls
Challenge yourself or your family to a 5 mile round trip hike to the waterfalls on the Mount Rose Summit Trail!This is a 4.8 mile round trip hike from the trailhead to the waterfalls on the Mount Rose Summit Trail. There is an elevation gain of 576 feet on the trail and the estimated hiking time is around 1.5 Hours.

Check out the Warrior 2 Challenge! It will be awesome!The Warrior 2 Challenge is a 7.47 mile hike to the Mount Rose 'Saddle' and back. There is an elevation gain of 1,287 feet and an estimated hiking time of 2.5 Hours.

Are you up for the Warrior 3 Challenge? Hike to Sunset Ridge and watch the sunset which is amazing, beautiful and awe-inspiringThe Warrior Challenge #3 has a distance of 8.18 miles with an elevation gain of 1,518 feet. It has an estimated hiking time of 2 hours 37 minutes.

This is a summit hike with some moonlight descending? How cool! Go big and be Warrior! Remember, Ben was blind when he accomplished all of his incredible feats! You can do it!The Warrior Challenge #4 has a distance of 9.92 miles with an elevation gain of 2,287 feet. The hike takes approximately 4.5 hours.

Cost
There is no cost to join the Be Warrior Challenge Hike. If you wish, you may make a donation to the Van Haren Lab to help find a cure for ALD.
Things to Bring
Here are a few items that our Be Warrior Challengers have found helpful to have with them while hiking:
Backpack
Solid hiking or trail running shoes
20 oz of water per person for each expected hour of hiking
1 snack (bar, sandwich, energy drink, etc.) for each hour of expected hiking
Warm jacket and/or rain jacket (2021 Warriors got very wet!)
Headlamp for Warrior Challenge 3 & 4 Participants
Training for the Hike - 'Being in a Position of Strength'
As you prepare yourself to take on the Be Warrior Challenge here are a few suggestions that will help to make your hike a success.
Hike/walk your total goal distance over the course of a week, the 3-4 weeks before the event.
Do 1 hike at 70-80% of the distance of your chosen challenge approximately 1 week before the event.
Undertaking a few hikes at higher elevations is also helpful.
