Reflection #4 – The Definition of a Warrior

The definition of a warrior: a brave or experienced fighter.

Ben was a warrior. He embodied a warrior in how fit he was and how brave he was and how he fought to overcome his illness.  He never seemed scared of anything, no matter what.  And I could see that he kept fighting–when his senses started to deteriorate, he tried hard to get them back and learned to manage the best he could.  He was encouraging.  I remember that I tried to climb up the pole to the treehouse every time I came over, and Ben was always waiting at the top for me.  One story that I remember about Ben and I: when we were little and I came over for sleepovers, we would wake up in the morning and go outside to look for chicken eggs.  The scary chickens would chase us around the chicken coop until we were able to grab the eggs and go back inside.  And that is how I think Ben embodied being a warrior, from the beginning.
