Ben’s friends, Louden and Lander Walker, made the twelve hour road trip from Eastern Washington to Reno a couple of times to share the scrappy love of life and adventure that they had in common. Together the three boys went rock climbing, four-wheeling and shooting, watched the Dark Knight, ate out, and trapped several black widows to mention just a few of their exploits.
I asked their mom Kerrie to see what the boys learned from their time with Ben and what they think it means to “Be Warrior.” She sent this.
- Never give up.
- Always try to have fun.
- Don’t play video games.
- Don’t worry what will happen when you do something like jump into 15 degree water.
- Push yourself.
- Be brave.
- Try to not stop when you’re tired.
- Try new things even if you’re not good at them.
- Conserve energy.
- Makes the most of the day, every day.
- Don’t waste time.
- Try to do everything you want to do.
- Face new challenges regardless of the outcome.
- Set a goal and finish it.
- Know when you need help.
I’ve turned this list into actions for us to think about because all of them are essential in making us stronger, better, more resilient people in the face of our own challenges. Be Warrior like Ben!
And, we hope to see you at the Be Warrior Challenge!
